Disposable intravenous blood sampling needles are medical consumables specifically designed for safe and sterile blood collection and are not intended for reuse. Their core function is to prevent cross-infection. When using them, it is necessary to strictly follow operational guidelines, including checking the integrity of the packaging, selecting the appropriate vein, standardizing the puncture process, and properly disposing of medical waste.
1. Structure and composition
Needle: Typically made of stainless steel, it is sharp and comes with a protective sheath to ensure smooth puncture and reduce pain. 1.
Connecting tube: A transparent hose connects the needle to the blood collection tube, facilitating direct blood flow into the vacuum tube. 2.
Needle holder: used to secure the needle, facilitating the operator's grip and adjustment of the puncture angle. 3.
Safety device: Some products are equipped with a pop-up sheath or automatic retraction function to prevent needle puncture injuries after use. 4.
II. Operational steps
Preparatory work: 1
Check the patient's information, and confirm the type of blood collection tube and the testing items.
Check whether the packaging is intact and within its expiration date.
Puncture procedure: 2
Apply a tourniquet, disinfect the puncture site, and allow the disinfectant to dry naturally.
Insert the needle at an angle of 15-30°, fix the needle after blood return is observed, and connect the blood collection tube.
After blood collection is completed, loosen the tourniquet first, and then remove the needle.
Hemostasis treatment: 3
Press the puncture site with a sterile cotton swab for 3-5 minutes, avoiding rubbing.
III. Applicable Population and Contraindications
Application scenarios: Routine physical examination, disease diagnosis, blood sample testing, and other situations requiring venous blood collection.
Precautions for special groups:
Infants and young children: It is recommended to choose a thinner needle (such as 23G) to shorten the hemostasis time.
Individuals with abnormal blood coagulation function: Extend the compression time to over 10 minutes.
Contraindications: Avoid puncture sites with infection, edema, or scars.
IV. Precautions for Use
Aseptic principle: 1
Reuse or shared use by multiple people is prohibited.
Wash your hands and wear gloves before operation, and ensure that the disinfection range of the puncture site is ≥5cm.
Needle insertion technique: 2
Avoid repeatedly puncturing the same site to prevent hematoma.
If the negative pressure in the blood collection tube is insufficient, it is necessary to replace it with a new tube in a timely manner.
Safety protection: 3
Immediately place the needle into the sharps box after use, and do not manually replace the needle cap.
V. Medical waste disposal
Sorting and discarding: 1
After separating the needle from the connecting tube, dispose of them into the sharps box and the infectious waste bin respectively.
Occupational protection: 2
If a needle stick injury occurs, immediately squeeze the wound to expel blood, disinfect it with iodophor, and report to the infection management department.
The disposable intravenous blood collection needle ensures the safety of patients and medical staff through rigorous sterile design and standardized operation. After use, it must be disposed of according to medical waste regulations, and any form of reuse is prohibited. Operators need to receive professional training to ensure an efficient and safe blood collection process.
